5m² Tiny Old Kitchen Transformed Beyond Recognition: Doubles Space, Fully Open Yet Completely Smoke-Free
Homeowner Nano in Shanghai's Xuhui District upgraded a 20-year-old, cramped 5-square-meter kitchen. Before the renovation, the space was confined, storage was chaotic, grease fumes were rampant, and fixtures were outdated. Guided by the principles of “open expansion, zoned storage, and smoke elimination,” the designer demolished half a wall to create an open layout. An L-shaped cabinet with a triangular workflow was planned, paired with a high-suction range hood and tiered storage solutions. The result doubled the kitchen's visual space, accommodated all 56 kitchen items within cabinets, enabled frying without smoke, and perfectly suited the needs of a three-person household—transforming it into a warm, homely space.
